Getting my Helix pierced

FullSizeRender-26.jpg

I am obsessed with my new helix piercing! I’ve spent hours browsing Pinterest for super cute jewellery. I want to share with you some info about cartilage piercings and my experience of the piercing process and aftercare. Hopefully this will be helpful if you’re considering piercing your helix, and if any of you have already had this done and could give this new-be some advice, I’d appreciate it 🙂

The Piercing Process…

If you’ve read my last blog post then you’ll know that I’m currently living in Nepal. There are pros and cons of getting a piercing in a country like this. A pro is that it only cost me 600NPR (4.50GBP)! If you’re planning on getting a cartilage piercing, it’s recommended that you get it done with a piercing needle, rather than your standard gun used for earlobes. Cartilage is a rigid structure, so there’s a risk of it shattering if a gun is used. When I went along, the piercing artist let me choose a ring and position it to the desired location on my ear. He then cleaned the area and pushed the needle through my ear from back to front.

So, how much does it hurt?

My helix piercing hurt more than getting my earlobes done. It was quite uncomfortable, but not too bad. The needle going through hurts a little, and then wiggling the ring into place was pretty uncomfortable. My ear ached for about half an hour afterwards, but apart from that, it doesn’t hurt unless I touch it. If the pain factor is what’s putting you off getting a helix piercing, I would say don’t worry. It’s definitely bearable. If you’ve had braces then you’ll have experienced more discomfort for sure! Prepare to not be able to sleep on that ear for some time. If you’re planning on getting both ears done, I would recommend getting one at once, for this reason.

Aftercare…

I’ve read a lot of contradictory advice online about caring for a cartilage piercing. My piercing artist recommended cleaning the area twice a day with saline. I’ve been using a quarter teaspoon of salt dissolved in boiled (and cooled to body temperature) filtered water  in a bowl and soaking my ear in there for 5-10mins twice a day.

Cartilage takes longer to heal than other piercings. It may take up to a year for the wound to be completely healed. So during this time you should have a ring or stud in there pretty much constantly, to avoid the hole closing. Wait 2-3 months before changing the piercing initially.

Aftercare is very important for cartilage piercings! The infection rate is about one in three piercings. Make sure to clean the wound regularly, avoid fiddling with it and only touch the piercing with clean hands.

That being said, I’m a new-be!

This advice has been given to me by my piercing artist. This is my first cartilage piercing, so if you have any tips and tricks for me, that’d be greatly appreciated! It’s only been three days since my procedure. I’d be interested to know how long others have found it takes for the area to not hurt when touched, or if you have any advice for me about avoiding infections and whether I should be moving the ring in the hole or leaving it alone?

I really love my helix piercing, and can definitely see myself getting other piercings in the future!

Lots of love,

Christmas Jumpers Inspiration

Countdown to Christmas: 8

Hey there! Today I have a selection of Christmas jumpers to inspire you this season. I think they’re all super cute! I’ve presented them in order of festive-ness, from OTT-OMG-Christmas-is-life-Yayyy to the I-like-Christmas-but-hate-Christmas-jumpers. So you’ll hopefully find the right inspiration for you, no matter your style 🙂

  1. The most Christmassy from my selection. I know it’s relatively tame, I want sweaters to be wearable. This is super cute, and not too embarrassing!

2. This has to be one of my faves. It’s very classic and looks super comfy 🙂

3. So cute! I feel like this is an all-round winter sweater, you could probably pull it off way into January. This would be a really sweet present as well.

4. This one is so beautiful. It definitely shouts “Christmas”, but somehow manages to stay quite sophisticated, delicate and feminine looking.

5. This geometric pattern is so gorgeous. I love the colours too. It looks to be a little more upmarket than some of the others, so a great alternative if you want to show your festive side and not look too cheesy.

6. The brown shade here is a little more subtle, I also love the stag design. Anything Christmassy with stags is a winner for me, even if it has nothing to do with Christmas!

7. Here come the sequins! Haha, sequins are usually a no-no for me, however I really love this sweater. Again, it could probably be worn throughout winter as well.

8. Finally this gorgeous number from Asos. This jumper was my favourite from Zoella’s recent Christmas Jumper Haul. It is on the bright side, but I think the Christmas tree elbow pads are so cute!

Bring back the golds! I love this look for fall, it is also great to use red based toned if you have green or blue eyes.
berry lips are an autumn must have. If you're apprehensive about this bold look, why not go for a deeper red tone?

I think knotted up-does look beautiful for autumn. Section off your hair, then tie the individual sections in knots, starting from the top and incorporating the other pieces as you move down.

Quick Update: Hi there lovelies 🙂 sorry I haven’t been posting much recently, I’ve been getting back into school for my final year. I’m currently off sick with a cold haha. I hope you’re all doing great, thanks for all the support, I love you so much! xx

Get Ready With Me: Beach Day

Hi there 🙂 Since the sun has been shining, I thought I would head down to the beach. I can’t wait to share my day with you, come get ready with me! Enjoy 🙂

FullSizeRender-21

– – Make up – –

Step 1 is make up. I don’t anything clogging up my pores so I’m going for a natural summery look. I’m using some bronzer and the lightest shade from my Sunkissed FullSizeRender-23palette as highlighter to define my cheekbones. Then I’m taking a wash of the golden colour (second from right bottom row) over my eyelids, before adding a little of the white shade into the corners of my eyes. Finishing off with Maybelline’s Classic Volume Express mascara in brown to add natural-looking length to my lashes.

– – Hair – –

I’m putting my hair up in a wrap-around crown braid so that it’s out of my face aFullSizeRender-22nd won’t blow around if it’s windy at the beach. To do this, start with a french braid but only add in more pieces of hair from the bottom strand, slowly work your way around your head, incorporating all the hair, then secure with bobby pins. I did this quite loosely to give a casual feel (try to hide the pins better than me!!).

– – Outfit – –

FullSizeRender-17I’ve chosen to wear a lightweight white summer dress (C&A) with comfy blue flip-flops (local shoe store). I also have my sunglasses (Madonna) and beach bag (H&M). I bought my bikini last year from
H&M, it was originally white, but turned pink when it was accidentally put in a coloured wash! So this summer I bought some clothes dye and dyed it light blue (and I love it!).

– – At the beach – –

The weather was so FullSizeRender-20gorgeous down at the beach today! It was even warm enough to go for a refreshing swim. As we’d had a large breakfast, I packed a light picnic lunch to snack on at the beach.

I had a great day at the beach, thanks for coming along and getting ready with me! Let me know if you like this slightly different style of post. I wish you an awesome day, lots of love.

Summer Holiday Haul

FullSizeRender-16Hello my lovelies 🙂 I’ve just enjoyed a week of holiday in the sun, and I’d love to share with you some of the things I have picked up recently.

  1. Zara Striped Dress: I picked this one up a few weeks ago, I really love it. It was a bargain, and perfect for the warmer weather. I like to dress it up with a black blazer, or dress it down with a pale pink cardigan. FullSizeRender-17
  2. H&M Skater Skirt: I know these skirts are a bit last year, but I really love this simple one. Great for warmer days and it goes with most things. FullSizeRender-18
  3. Gold Patterned Photoframe: This was another bargain which I bought simply because it looks so pretty! I can’t wait to put a photo inside.FullSizeRender-21
  4. Feather Pattered Mug: I just love everything about this mug. As you may know, I am quite a big tea-addict. I’m the sort of person who assigns different mugs for different types of tea or coffee. This feather pattern really caught my eye, as well as being beautiful, the large size is perfect for me, and I really like the insides of mugs to be white so that I can see the shade of the drink. Is that weird? haha.FullSizeRender-23
  5. Sandals: I really like these decorative sandals. I think they’re really pretty, plus they’re quite comfy too. FullSizeRender-20
  6. Essence Yellow Nail Polish: As you may or may not know, I always go for subtle, nude or turquoise nail polishes. So this year I decided to do something crazy and buy a bright yellow (seen on my toenails in previous pic). I’m not sure about wearing it on my fingernails, but I have to say that I love this summer shade for my toes!FullSizeRender-25
  7. Twisted Hair Tie: I’ve seen a lot of these around the place, and I have to say that they do keep your hair up really well, especially in a bun. When I found this one for 50 cents I was so happy! haha.FullSizeRender-24

I hope you enjoyed this quick haul post, let me know what you think. I wish you an awesome day and an amazing summer! Lots of love,
